Leading China Analysis

Our founder, Tony, established China Update Consulting with a single mission in mind: to help our clients better understand China. Tony is originally trained in law, serving as a barrister and solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand. Early in his career, after working in government and private practice, he moved to Beijing to pursue work in China policy research and consultancy.

Tony studied Chinese Foreign Policy at Peking University, Beijing, where he graduated with distinction. In the years since, he has continued living in China working in management roles across various industries as well as providing China analysis to clients in Europe, North America, Australia, and New Zealand.

Tony also produces a YouTube series which follows China developments. He believes that it is important to make understanding China more accessible to a general audience. The channel currently enjoys approximately one million views each month.
